AKA Monograph Series

#7 - Working With Difficult Faculty:  Challenges for the Chair by Jerry R. Thomas and Katherine T. Thomas (University of North Texas)

The American Kinesiology Association (AKA) is offering for its members a free monograph series on leadership skills from some of the top academic leaders and scholars in the field.  The papers in this series provide step-by-step guidance for those interested in learning new skills and strategies for managing and leading a Kinesiology Department.  Individual papers focus on professional development opportunities for new and also experienced department chairs, and will help them address the increasing complexity of their roles.  It has become increasingly clear that the accountability culture in higher education requires a complex set of skills for academic leaders if they are to be successful in an administrative position.

We are delighted to share this resource with you as the contact person from an AKA member institution. We hope you find this paper useful and will share it with faculty you are grooming for greater leadership roles. Subsequent papers will be sent out every couple months. In the future, individual papers and the full monograph series will be available for purchase.
